Slimming World isn't about depriving yourself or never being able to have a little of what you fancy.
In fact, each and every day, you're allowed a Syns allowance to enjoy your favourite treats.
These Syns include anything that isn't included on the free foods list, and they mean that if you feel like enjoying a glass of wine, tucking into a few biscuits, or eating out a restaurant, you can stay on plan and continue to get results.
Unfortunately, the only official way to find out how many Syns are in your chosen treats is by paying to access the Slimming World website or app.
As a side note here, I definitely recommend that you join Slimming World if you're serious about the plan.
You'll get all the tailored support you need, access to all the latest and most accurate information, and the official app can tell you the exact amount of Syns for practically anything that you'd ever want to eat – from new product launches in the supermarkets, to dishes at your favourite restaurants.
If you're going it alone though or you're not in a position to spend any cash at the moment, you don't have to be kept completely in the dark.
Try this…
Your Slimming World Syns Calculator
You can create your own Slimming World Syns calculator by just doing a simple sum.
See, as a general rule of thumb, 20 calories = 1 syn.
So 100 calories = 5 syns, 200 calories = 10 syns, and so on.
Though this Slimming World Syns calculator isn't completely foolproof, it's usually pretty accurate and it's a great workaround if you don't have a paid membership at the moment.
Got more questions about using your Syns?
Here's what you need to know…
How many Slimming World Syns can I have per day?
Most people are allowed 15 Syns per day on Slimming World. Some people will be allowed more or less, depending on how much weight they have to lose. Always ask your consultant for tailored advice to protect your weight loss.
Can Slimming World Syns be carried over?
Lots of people prefer to save some of their Syns for a weekend treat. This gives you more flexibility and allows you to manage social events, though it's not advisable to save all your Syns for just one day. Spread them over the week so you're satisfied and don't feel deprived.
Do you have to eat all your Syns on Slimming World?
Don't force yourself to eat all your Syns if you're not feeling hungry. Do remember, however, that your allowance is there to be enjoyed, and it will make your weight loss more sustainable over time. Slimming World isn't about deprivation!
How many calories are in a Slimming World Syn?
As explained in my calculator, 1 Syns is typically equal to 20 calories. So if a food has 100 calories, there will be approximately 5 Syns. There are, of course, exceptions to this rule, and you should consult the official Slimming World app.
A little bit of forward planning here is likely to serve you well. Make a list of your favourites foods that aren't Free Foods or Healthy Extras, and use the Slimming World Syns calculator to work out how much of your allowance they'll take up.
From there, you can plan your week in advance, make sure that you've accounted for any treats you might want, and continue with your weight loss success!
Remember too that there are of plenty of satisfying meals that you can make on Slimming World that are entirely Syn free.
Here are a few of my favourites that you might want to try…
This Syn free salt & pepper chicken and chips is one of my favourite fakeaways, and is every bit as tasty as your usual order from your local Chinese restaurant.
Fancy Mexican food, but with a bit of a twist? My Syn free chicken fajita pasta is quick and easy, and perfect for a midweek meal for the whole family.
And last but not least, be sure to check out these Syn free steak bakes. They're one of the most popular recipes here on the blog, and are perfect served with chips and peas.
